What to wear under the wedding dress by gown style:
“A” Line/Princess
This classic style has a fitted bodice with a gradually flaring from the waist that resembles the letter ‘A’ (hence the name). A universally flattering silhouette, you could forgo tight shapewear in favor of something comfortable and pretty. This silhouette has the most flexibility and gives you the most options. Feel free to wear any type of bottom since the loose-fitting skirt will hide your bottom half.
Ballgown
The traditional Ballgown style is characterized by a fitted bodice and a voluminous, floor-length, full skirt (think poofy!). This is different from the Princess gown in that the bodice has a much sharper contrast to the skirt, whereas the princess-style bodice will gradually curve into the skirt. For this style, we recommend emphasizing the waistline by using a bustier or corset to cinch the waist. As with the A-line style, feel free to wear any type of bottom since the loose-fitting skirt will hide your bottom half.
Sheath/Column
Narrow gowns that have a non-flaring skirt, the main goal of the Sheath style is to create a smooth silhouette that does not disrupt the fit of the dress. Aim for seamless slips or shapewear – the keyword being seamless. Whichever you choose, select something that won’t create any bulges or lines in this form-fitting style.
Mermaid
Similar to the Sheath style gown, the Mermaid style is form-fitting and with a narrow skirt. The main difference is that the bottom of the skirt has a dramatic flare at the knee length, creating a dramatic silhouette and emphasizing curves. The cinching of the skirt below your torso will be emphasizing your tummy and butt so a shapewear panty with tummy control would be ideal.
